A movie by coffee ani narach kashi fame Prakash Kunte with different story line set in 1948 ,great message ,superb characterisation nd Acting.Unusual Hrishikesh Mukharji style story telling ,no villain ,all characters ,even BICYCLE THIEVES r basically gud.
The journey of two bicycle thieves coning people nd keshav the owner of the cycle unfolds understanding the Self beautifully.
Cycle is also a departure from Kunte’s earlier romantic comedy films and featured urban characters in a variety of settings asCycle is set against a rural backdrop with characters to match. Conceptually, one can find the idea at home with neorealist fable cinema Film reminds one the De Sica’s famous film, Bicycle Thieves, which featured a bicycle theft and featured characters in search of stability.
Cycle is also about a bicycle theft and ‘search’ is definitely one of the key elements, but is unlike bicycle thief is not a realist film but falls more in the ‘fable’ category, set in a time of innocence, where everyone is potentially good and happy endings are just round the corner.
Roles of all Hrishikesh Joshi ,Bhau Kadam,nd priy darshan are excellent. Bhau n priy darshan have played the serious roles enough beautifully against their images.©
